A Lazy Person’s Guide to Fresh Breath: Listerine Pocketmist Review

The quest for fresh breath is universal for almost everyone. Some people prefer gum–but it’s not a good option for people whose jaws get tired or have tooth issues. Some like those popular curiously strong mints–but it’s similarly not pleasant for those who avoid strong flavors–like me. I don’t want my breath mint to hurt me. A good compromise between the two is a breath spray like Listerine Pocketmist.

This is similar to the old, old-school breath spray product called Binaca that I have vague memories of from middle school. Does anyone remember that? Anyone? Am I that old?

Side note: On the odd occasion I do want to chew gum for fresh breath, I prefer one called Pur Gum in Spearmint. It has no sugar, and the sweetener, Xylitol, is reportedly good for your teeth. It’s good to chew it after a meal to prevent bacteria from sticking to your teeth.

Why I’m obsessed with Listerine Pocketmist:

  • Gets rid of bad breath. Pretty simple.Listening closeup (1)
  • Small enough to easily fit into a pocket or tiny clutch purse. Hence the name PocketMist, for those not aware of the obvious like me.
  • Gets the job done quickly. A couple sprays and you’re good. No need to wait for it to kick in.
  • So easy. Sometimes I don’t want to chew a piece of gum to freshen my breath. It requires too much effort. For example, where do you put the chewed up wad of gum when you’ve sucked all the flavor out of it? There has to be a wrapper, a trash bin, etc. I highly recommend NOT spitting gum out on the sidewalk, putting it underneath a chair or unbelievably, on the floor mat in the backseat of my car! Yes, that last egregious one actually happened to me.

Tips:

  • Sometimes you have to “prime the pump” by pressing it quickly a few times to get it

  • Prepare friends who want to try it. Aim for the back of the throat and the tongue.  Spray 2-3 times.
  • It does have alcohol, so be aware of that. It will feel a bit tingly, but definitely not as strong/painful as Altoids.
